Description

Here’s the fourth in the series that I’m doing to flesh out the individual galleries a little more. Zephyrus didn’t really have that big a role in the original myth other than flying Psyche up to Eros originally, and that was pretty much it. Somehow, my mind translated that into Zephyrus and Eros being all BFFs, and so he’s become a major player in the story. He’s also a bit of a pathetic character, going with my idea that there’s more to the myths than people realize.

I also needed to design his god form, and at first, he was going to have a respectful toga, floor length and all. But that didn’t work out well, so he needed up with this. ;P I like it, though, and it’s a little more respectful than Eros’, thanks to the shirt. And it suits him. At first I wasn’t going to put him in blue, because that’s too obvious, but then I was reminded that he’s in blue in his profile picture, so I figured why not? And the color looked good on him to boot. It was win/win.

He’s holding a Frisbee there because, in the story, it’s mentioned that Apollo cursed him thanks to him accidentally killing Hyacinth such that he’s forced to chase any discus that’s thrown in his presence, unless it’s part of a game. Jokes on Apollo, though, since Zephyrus decided to take the curse and make it into a blessing, honing his discus skills so he’s pretty much unmatched. He only hates it when Apollo is around, because he exploits the fact. It also doesn’t allow him to forget his stupid mistake.

Over all, I think he turned out very well. He’s certainly hot enough to rival Eros, but not quite. But I love him anyway. :D

Ha, I had to laugh when (after you went on about the curse Apollo put on him) you decided to put the Frisbee (excuse me, discus) in the picture with him. Poor guy just can't escape it, even if he's learned to be okay with it at this point. But hey, at least the red really pops against all that blue. >.>

Yeah, like I said when you were colouring this, I'm not sure the sort of tunic Eros has one would really be appropriate for Zephyrus; having a regular tunic and then sort of a toga just suits him much more. Zephyrus isn't like those prettyboys out there, after all: he's a dignified, serious god, yes he is. >.>

I like how, despite white being the 'default' color for tunic, the white and blue color scheme just suits a wind god. Especially since his winds are gentle ones, so having soft colors works nicely. I don't know if I'm making sense, but I like the scheme of course I would, it's blue! But yeah, I think in the case of the gods, going with the obvious color can sometimes be a benefit; I know that's what I do. ^^; I'm just saying that it looks nice on him, so it's all good.

The belt there is also a nice way to keep the toga in place as well as just provide a nice structure to the garment, if that makes sense. That little bit of silver in the belt buckle also stands out among the dark surroundings.

Ha, I love how Zephyrus managed to take his curse and turn it into a blessing. Sure, Apollo specifically said playing for sport was the lone exception to the rule, but by that point, the poor guy's become so used to chasing whirly disc-shaped things that he probably kicks everyone's butt at the sport thanks to all that practice Apollo's been giving him. Thanks, Apollo! ;P

Love the picture! It's neat to see Zephyrus in his god form, since it's probably seen so rarely. :D
