Tobias Comparison

Description

When I decided to do the other characters for this comparison thing, I hadn't actually intended to do the boys. After all, as a general rule, I don't exactly change my guys that much from version to version. But then I realized that Tobias had changed significant;y through the various versions, and figured it was only fair that I do him as well.

He hasn't changed that much, mind, but it's just enough.

The Tobias on the left is the current version of Tobias. He works as an apprentice to David Porter, mostly out of pity since he had lost his best friend (consequently, their only daughter) at a young age, but he's proved to be quite adept at what he does. He was in love with Persephone before she disappeared when they were around ten/eleven, and has managed to become obsessed with finding her, although there's very little chance of him doing so. He's the second and youngest son of a farmer, but is physically incapable for the job. His older brother used to bully him a lot when they were younger, which sort of helped to develop his sharp wit. He's extremely bright, but doesn't really like the monarchy that much, despite knowing they're his employer's family. He knows a lot more than he ought to, and he tends to question a lot of things people take for granted. Overall, though, he's a kind person with a kind heart.

The Tobias on the right is the first version of Tobias. He has a bit of a rebellious streak, involving himself with a group called the 'Tyrant Killers' who were the local rebel alliance group. He worked as a stocker in a grocery store, mostly because I had this idea that Adrienne, the town they lived in, was mix between modern and medieval. He...didn't exactly go to work that often, but apparently his boss liked his, since he was never fired. His father was a business man, his older brother was a bit of a peeve and still bullied him, and his mother was bedridden. He quite randomly picks up this girl off the streets after his witnessed her jumping over the palace walls for no reason whatsoever, as far as I can tell. He did it for shits and giggles, I suppose.

To tell the truth, I actually sort of like how old Tobias turned out. He always had this perpetually bored look to him in my old art, and I have no idea why. :O_o: But his hair doesn't look half bad. I also find it funny that way back in the day, I had the hardest time spelling 'Tobias' right. I think I kept wanting to spell it Tobais or something.

And just FYI, I ended up changing Tobias' eye color from blue-green to just green because I noticed a lack of green in the character's eye colors. Blue and brown I had plenty of, but no one had green, so that makes him ~*~special~*~, I suppose. I like it; it looks good on him.

Oh wow. You don't think they've changed too much until you see them side by side. He's mostly gained a tan and a slightly happier appearance (though I never noticed the perpetually bored look to the first version until now >.O) but it's the personality that changed the most.

I like the new look to Tobias (though seeing the old version redrawn is pretty interesting; he looks...well, like a rebellious kind of guy, I guess. :P) naturally. He looks happier, and much more like a farmer's son. Not to mention I think he looks very good in blue (not that the black and white colour scheme isn't a nice one, but the blue complements Tobias better, I think). I like the old version's hair though; it's nice and shaggy. >.>

I always find it neat to see how characters have changed from version to version, and Tobias is a good example of that; he seems much more like a nice, normal boy who unfortunately lost his best friend several years before. The old version still has him a nice guy, but a rebellious sort of nice guy, more so than the current version. It's just funny to see the differences in how they're portrayed.

Great to see more comparisons, since I wasn't sure if there would be any more. :D Yay, Gatekeeper art!
