Helios Comparison

Description

This was actually a last ditch effort when I realized that I only had two pictures (three counting the fan art from ~callisto-chan that she did yesterday) to put into my update today. I had hoped I'd somehow find time to finish this yesterday, but...I didn't exactly plan it very well. For some odd reason, I thought I'd have more time after work, but then I remember how much work went into my coloring now.

But still, I decided to finish it up anyway, so here you go.

I really like the idea of these comparison pictures, although I wasn't sure if I should do a comparison between the first version of Earthia or their original characters. For Aerona, I decided to do her original senshi version, since you can see how much she's evolved a lot better.

I'm still not entirely too sure what prompted me to chose this particular character to alienize back when I realized that my story was alien based, and all of them looked human. It could have been any of them - Gaea, Iris, Draco, or Leo - but it ended up Helios, and I'm really glad chose Helios. She was pretty much a no-name character at that point, a leftover from when I first started thinking about fan senshi and created a Sailor Helios to be the twin of Sailor Moon. I felt obligated to keep her around, but I hadn't developed her much.

I don't think my story would have been quite the same without my blue-skinned hyper alien girl.

You can sort of see how these two characters relate...mostly in their blond hair and their love of gold and red. Otherwise...completely different designs! But that's the way it's supposed to be, so I'm good with it. Ha ha, I remember I gave Helios a blue ribbon in her hair so people wouldn't think she was a Venus knock-off, since I couldn't use the yellow (it was too close to her hair color). Weird, but I think that makes sense. >.<

Since my first drawings of Helios were in colored pencil, I pulled her colors off the Wiki page of the crayola colored pencil colors. Which is the main reason her colors look so bizarre and bright. Figured I'd use the colors I originally used for her, and it's sorta neat. :D

And no, this is totally not an excuse to draw Aerona and her dress again. She's the only other one with the most contrast! Serious! No, you're right, I totally did it to draw Aerona and her dress again.

I seriously might have to do more of these. :D

Ha ha, wow. What a change! I was going to say that the old version seemed to have unusually bright colours, even if you were using the old colours you used to use, but then I saw that it was actually a digital version of coloured pencil colours, and all of a sudden it made a lot more sense. Things like that always tend to brighten up when you change them to digital. >.>

It's funny seeing the two of them side by side -- yeah, they both have blonde/yellow hair and a penchant for warm colours, but they're different otherwise. Even their skin and eye colours seem to be almost opposites of each other (okay, not quite, but you know what I mean!) It's still funny to think that Aerona became Aerona completely at random -- it could have been anyone else at all you'd chose to alienify, but instead it was her. Okay, there was some logic behind it (that you wanted to flesh her character out a bit more than you had), but the fact remains that it could have been anyone. Weird to think about what could have been. Could you imagine a non-hyper, non-blue skinned Aerona (if she was even called that, and not Angelica)? Because I can't. ;P

Drawing Aerona just because of her outfit is a perfectly legitimate reason, I should add. >.> And yeah, she's one of the few others that gets a drastic appearance change, but it's all because of the outfit. >>. And that's fine, for it is a gorgeous outfit! To say nothing of all the contrast she has. :D

The fact that your last 'official' picture for Earthia (official in the sense that they're pictures you drew while you were working on the story) is of Aerona seems strangely fitting. I had to admit, when you said you had an image you were working on that you didn't think you would finish, I thought it might have been a certain spoilery WIP you showed off for approximately half a second. >.> Since it would make sense for the end of the book.

But to be honest, having it be an Aerona comparison is just as good, because I really like seeing how all the characters have changed throughout time. Sure, some changes are more drastic than others (though I think Kay's brief stint as an olive-skinned brunette is pretty drastic too), but it's still a great way to show off how these characters first started out, versus how the ended up by the end of the series. It feels fitting to end the series off by showing the beginning and the current versions. :D

So yay! The two of them are gorgeous, the contrast is amazing, and it's great to see Earthia art!
