Description
I was sort of bumming around today, in the mood to art, but not getting any real ideas. For some unexplained reason, I thought of how ~callisto-chan once mentioned that I should redo my Circle of the Flame piece, because it is a rather pretty picture. And so, for whatever reason, I decided to go ahead and redraw it. Crazy thing. -_-
Ember Fyre, the girl on the far left, is the main character. She was found orphaned at a very young age, although she doesn't find this out until recently. No one wants to tell her to circumstances in which her parents found her, which leads her to believe that they were doing something wrong when it happened. She's a bit of an odd girl because of it, not really following any traditions, although she does try. The story would revolve around Ember finding out more about her past, and why she was abandoned in the first place.
Will Magmas, the guy, is Ember's best friend and love interest. He's a traditional villager, and probably one of the most eligible young men. The problem is, of course, that he's completely head over heels in love with Ember, not really caring that she's different from everyone else. He embraces her oddness, really. He's a year older than Ember, and preparing for the upcoming ceremony in which all people his age get married. He has yet to chose his bride.
Brandi Frye, the short girl, is Ember's little sister. She completely idolizes her sister, who ends up being a bad influence on her, although she's trying not to be. Brandi's at the age where she wants to prove that she can do things on her own, although she understands that some things she can't do. She's very adventurous because of it, and more curious than most people her age. She finds nothing wrong with Ember, and makes it a point to stand up for her.
Grace Lavos, the blond, is basically Ember's rival. Her blond hair is supposed to make her the most unique and beautiful girl in the village, but of course Ember ruins that with her exotic appearance. She's still considered very pretty, and is very egotistical about it. She is the most popular girl in the village, and sort of runs things because of it, since most people fall over backwards to do what she wants. She's the same age as Will, and is going out of her way to try to convince him to take her as his bride.
For some odd reason, every time I draw this, I end up putting Grace in this weird outfit that's not very flattering on her. This one's not as bad, but it's still weird. I really love how Ember turned out, though - I decided to go back to the unnatural red for her, and I like it. She just looks freaking adorable. I had forgotten that I had made Brandi Will's sister the last time I did this, but the idea I had of Ember being adopted, as well as Brandi being her sister, makes a lot of sense, and gives me a plot for the story.
I doubt I'll ever actually do this story, of course, but at least it has a plot now.

I don't know, eventually you're going to run out of story ideas for NaNo...maybe this is a future NaNo story? Nothing wrong in preparing for NaNo 2014. 
In other words, wow! I certainly wasn't expecting this at allmostly because I figured your muse would be a little bit on ES once I spammed you with old ES art 
So this is definitely a pleasant surprise! It's always neat to see these pictures crop up every now and then, because it allows you to see how your art's improved over the years (kind of like how you keep drawing the Gatekeeper group pictures, except this isn't as frequent as those 
) There's definitely been improvement since 2009 (and the 2006 picture is kind of funny to look at now because your style moved so far away from that)!
It's kind of funny, looking through the older pictures, how Ember generally looks the same throughout...except for that one picture, where she's a pale, natural redhead. Stands out just a little bit, yes it does. >.> But I like the unnatural red look, mostly because it does look so strange; it's a very clear way to show how she's different from most other people in the village. Not to mention it might play a role in why she was abandoned to begin with? (I could have swore that was a factor you mentioned in the descriptions of older pictures.) Her outfit is kind of interesting -- there's a lot of elements to it, but the colours work pretty well together, even if they seem like a mishmash at first. I know she's had a similar skirt in all the other versions of this pic, but it looks strangely cute, especially with the sash/knotted portion on the side (and so does Brandi's skirt, for that matter)
Will looks pretty cute, and strangely good in red.
I like the double-belt look on him (maybe because I like the double-belt look, period ) and I like how he's all quietly holding hands with Ember there. Very subtle way of showing that he likes her. >.> Brandi looks cute too, but then again, she's always looked cute. I like the idea you have there of Ember being her adopted sister (but she's also related to Will? Unless that was just for an older version of the story.)
I didn't think Grace was dressed too strangely than the rest of them, either in this version or old ones, but I have to admit I like her outfit here. The dress is a nice little variation on what the other girls are wearing, and the pink looks very good on her (and why wouldn't it, with that pale skin?) Not to mention I like her with those blunt bangs. I don't know why, but they look pretty.
