Description
A long time ago, in November of 2007, I found a song that fit perfectly with what I saw Ryan and Ben's relationship to be like. It was called Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, and while I did find other songs for Purebred, this was the one that stuck. Because no matter how the story changed, one thing that didn't was Ryan and Ben's feelings for each other, or their relationship in general. Sure, Ben's no longer a two hundred year old vampire who's been waiting his entire life for Ryan to be born, but he's still an immortal vampire. She'll grow old; he won't.
In any case, although I probably would have redrawn them eventually, the radio in my store likes to play this song occasionally, which, of course, gets my muse immediately on the story. So naturally, since I'm rewriting (again) this story, I felt like I needed to redraw this piece, since it is seven and a half years old at this point. I have tried redrawing it before, but it never looked as good as the original.
Luckily, this time around, I managed to nail it perfectly.
I could have gone like the original and had her sleeping while he's watching, but I think it's sweeter to have them both looking at each other in this position. I also somehow managed to make it actually look like a nighttime picture, and like they're under a light. (Ignore the fact that the shading isn't correct. It was bad enough shading with him upside down, and I didn't want to mess myself up further. I'm a terrible, terrible artist.) Hell, it even actually looks like they're lying in the grass.
Ha ha, I love that shirt Ben has. It says 'The Book was Better', and I imagine Thomas getting that for him one year, because Thomas swears up and down that Ben invented the phrase. Of course, it backfired on Thomas, since it's Ben's favorite shirt. As for Ryan, she's wearing a shirt that I own...sort of. I own it in brown, but I liked the blue a little better for her.
I was actually going to give her a Star Wars shirt and him a Harry Potter shirt to show their interests, but...that one was too perfect for Ben. 
Overall, it turned out to be an adorable picture, and I'm glad I decided to redo it!

The sad thing that I've spent way took much time squinting at Ryan's shirt to see what it is. >.< Slave Leia, I think? Either way, it's really pretty, and I like the idea of both of them wearing the same colour (Ben's colour in this case, but they could both be wearing Ryan's colour too).
I can totally understand how tricky doing a picture like this could be. Sure you could flip the canvas upside-down, but it's not easy to do that in Illustrator (that I know of anyway). Still, for having to shade poor Ben upside-down, you did a pretty good job. I can't tell. All I know is that it's really tricky to shade anything to do with nighttime, but somehow you managed to pull it off pretty well. Although what you did before was kinda neat, if you tweaked it a bit.
I can't remember how you did it, just that I still kinda like the look.
These guys look great as they are though. It's always awesome to see redraws, especially if you're like me and flip back and forth between the old and the new. The changes are just awesome. I really like that Ryan's not sleeping and is instead looking at Benjamin; makes her seem like she's got more of an active role in the picture, and it looks super cute to boot! She also looks really good in blue, weirdly enough. Green or pink I could understand, but blue is a pleasant surprise.
Also I won't lie, I kinda think of Purebred when I hear Chasing Cars (also when I hear Fireflies by Owl City, since I think you said that was a Purebred song, too? I don't hear that one very often!) I kinda like what you did with the lyrics though. I know we don't use much actual text in picture any more (as in song lyrics), but these look really nice.
Did I mention these two are adorable together? Because they totally are.
