Birthday Girl Persephone

Description

One thing I was mad about last year is the fact that I started doing these birthday pictures, and sort of forgot to do one for Persey. I mean, granted, I should have also done one of Kay and Dylan last year, since I had their NaNo story completed, but that's beside the point. This is Persey's picture, after all. So of course I had to make up for it by making a picture this year. And here it is. >.>

I've sort of got a theme going with the birthday pictures this year, and I figured I'd keep with it for Persey. While most of the pictures have the birthday boy or girl holding a present, the idea is that the gift is from their significant other. I was going to have Persey holding a present as well, but that's not exactly the tradition that Ithiyans have, at least not the farmers. And since Tobias was raised as a farmer, I had to stick with what he'd do.

I also sort of wondered what sort of gift he'd give her before realizing that, of course, he'd make her a gift. That's what she's doing here, showing of the lovely bracelet that he made her. (I think she's going to have a ton of jewelry as she gets older, because that's all he makes her.) Naturally, it matches her necklace that he made for her as well, because I thought that was a cute touch. And its red, because that's her favorite color.

I also thought it'd be fun to actually sit down and design her blue dress. It's mentioned in the story as her 'nicer' dress, the one she wants to wear when she goes off to special events, like meeting her best friend's, soon to be fiance's, parents for the first time since losing her memory, or going to the castle. Its been mentioned, but I never actually designed it. And what better day to show it off than he birthday? Of course she'd want to wear it then; it's a special occasion!

I added the bit of yellow to seperate it from her Gatekeeper dress, which is all blue. I was going to make it pink, but thought that looked too much like Taika's dress. And I have to say, I like how it looks. :D It certainly looks fancier than her causal dresses, which is exactly what I was going for. :D The whole thing ended up looking really nice, which I'm happy about.

The interesting this is, based on how I do my stories, today is her actual eighteenth birthday. But what's really impressive is that I chose her birthday based on the fact that this is the day I conceived her story and her concept, so today is also her real ninth birthday. ;P If I had thought of that, I would have drawn her as a nine year old. >.O Aw well, there's always next year... >.>

Ack, sorry for taking so long to comment. >.O I was so focused on getting the birthday pic up that I figured this had to wait. >.O

Haha, this is going to sound sad, but I forgot that she even had a blue dress. It's rarely mentioned, and she typically wears her teal dress in Ithiya (that's what I picture her wearing 99% of the time, unless she specifically mentions wearing another dress than that), so this one fell under the radar. It's nice that you finally did get a chance to design it, since it looks so pretty! Looks more Renaissance than medieval (I don't thik the puff sleeves are slashed, but they kind of look it) to me, but not quite. Either way, it's an interesting blend of styles, and while it might seem like a little much...well, it's only appropriate for a formal dress! (I suppose, were she completely Ithiyan in mindset, she'd have probably worn this, her best dress, to get married rather than have something made for her. >.>)

Yeah, I think the colour scheme looks really nice (and I agree; pink would be too Taika-ish...and that wouldn't do!), since blue and yellow go together really well even though they're not contrasting colours. I suppose it's because yellow is kinda close to orange? But I like the contrast, especially between the darker blues and the bright yellows. The little corset/cincher around her waist is a nice touch -- we've seen other Ithiyan characters (and Taika) have something like that for formal dresses, so it makes sense that Persey would get one too. >.>

Another part I kinda like is the lace sleeves (I don't know if they're false/detachable sleeves, but that probably would be convenient for washing purposes). It reminds me a bit of Regency fashions, the later sorts where they started putting all sorts of Renaissance-like decorations on it rather than sticking to the simple aesthetic they had before -- detachable lace sleeves, much like that, were popular...and dresses were forming puff sleeves by this point...yeah, this has nothing to do with the picture, I'm just rambling now. :P

Hee, I love the bracelet! Yeah, I could totally see Persey having more jewellery than she knows what to do with, much like my one grandmother. :P But Tobias is making the jewellery out of love, so she has to hang onto it. I bet she'll probably have bunches of jewellery sets, all along different themes, so she'll have no shortage of items -- all for free! I bet all the other peasant wives will be jealous that she gets all that swag for free, even if Persey doesn't see what the big deal is. :P

Ha ha, you've got a point...next year will be her tenth birthday, so it seems really appropriate to draw child Persey then. >.> Not to mention she went through the Gate to Earth when she was ten, so that's another milestone you could work with. But it's funny to hear that about her "real" birthday, since it's hard to believe you've had Persey for nine years now. >.O I mean, I know you have, but it's just funny to know that it' been nearly a decade since this story started. >.O

But yay, birthday picture and a pretty dress! >.> Happy belated, Persey, and love the picture. :D
